MORAY'S MSP Richard Lochhead has presented Moray Women's Aid with a cheque for £1900.

Mr Lochhead was able to donate the cash thanks to sponsorship of his charity Christmas card competition by local businesses.

Hannah Clapperton, of Logie Primary School, was named as the winner of the competition before Christmas.

Mr Lochhead invited pupils from across primary schools in Moray to design a local community-themed card.

"I know the money will be well used to ensure they continue supporting women and children across Moray."

Elle Johnston, services manager at Moray Women’s Aid, said: “Moray Women’s Aid are very pleased to accept this donation and would like to thank Richard and all the children and local businesses involved in the raising of funds through the Christmas card competition.

"It is well appreciated from us all and the monies will be spent directly towards the support needed by our families”

Springfield Group HR manager, Diane Kemp is on the board of Moray Women's Aid. She added: “Moray’s Women’s Aid does fantastic work and, as a volunteer on the board, it’s a cause that I strongly advocate.

“The Christmas card competition was a great initiative to bring the community together, engage with local children and raise money for an invaluable charity in Moray. Springfield is delighted to have helped make this a reality.”

In addition to Springfield, Richard Lochhead thanked Robertson Group, Walker’s Shortbread, Maclean’s Bakery, The Forsyths Group and McDonald’s in the Community Foundation for sponsoring his Christmas card.
