RAF servicemen recently paid their respects to a squadron leader who passed away unexpectedly in Findhorn 20 years ago.

During a memorial ceremony, 201 Squadron – based at RAF Lossiemouth – used a training sortie to fly over Findhorn Bay as an ode to the anniversary of the death of Andrew Richardson.

An RAF spokesperson explained: “Andrew was an ex Royal Australian Air Force pilot who had joined the RAF and was about to start the Nimrod MR2 course at Kinloss.

“His widow Jan and sons Charlie and Hugo now live in Australia.

“Members of the extended Richardson family have made numerous trips from Queensland over the past two decades to see Andrew’s memorial bench at Findhorn.

“They are very appreciative of recent efforts by the Findhorn community and RAF members to restore the bench and commemorate Andrew’s passing.”

The bench is positioned just across the B9011 from Kinloss and Findhorn Parish Church.

It offers a glorious view of Findhorn Bay and is ideally situated for quiet reflection with one of the best views in the area.
