Probe after Forres assault

POLICE have issued an appeal after a man was left with facial injuries in an "unprovoked" assault in Forres in the early hours of Sunday.

The 20-year-old victim was taken to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin where he was treated.

Officers would like to trace a man aged in his mid-20s in connection with inquiries. He is described as white, around 5ft 11ins tall, with dark hair and dark stubble. He was wearing a black jacket with a white logo or stripe, dark jeans and white trainers.

Police are also keen to speak to a trio who helped the man in the aftermath of the incident.

The incident took place in the Cumming Street area at around 1.30am on Sunday, June 2.

Investigating officer Constable Donald Matheson, of the Divisional Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit, said: "This appears to be an unprovoked and isolated incident.

"We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything in that area at the time or who may recognise the description of the man given.

"We are particularly keen to speak to three men who came to the aid of the injured man.
