LOCAL youngsters are hoping to raise £5000 for a new vehicle to take them to events and activities.

1st Forres Scout Group will add £1800 proceeds from its traditional Christmas Scout Post service to the collection for a minibus to replace their current second-hand vehicle which is now beyond economical repair.

Secretary Louise Berry confirmed the organisation processed almost 5000 cards during the festive period. The activity involves every member of 1st Forres Scouts - from six to 18 years-old - at every stage.

Ms Berry said: "We had lots of helpers to collect, sort and deliver the cards and for this we are extremely grateful.

"This is the second year we have worked with only two sort evenings which has become a successful formula. In previous years we had four sorts but this was a huge commitment for our volunteers, hence the change to two."

She added: "We greatly appreciate the support for our Christmas post. It's always nice to hear that folk enjoy meeting our young people and their family/friends as they deliver the cards and we are delighted to provide this service."

The Scouts are looking for suggestions of ideas to raise the remaining funds for the minibus.

Ms Berry finished: "If anyone has any suggestions for fundraising, or perhaps would like to make a donation, they can get in touch at forresscouts.sec@gmail.com."
