Post office manager Alexander Wilson said the thief left alcohol, cigarettes and till money untouched during the robbery, with only a small quantity of vapes going missing.

The break-in happened at around 1.55am on Sunday morning (November 20) and Mr Wilson said Police arrived quickly.

He said: "I got to the shop five minutes after I was called to find the Police already here.

"The main door to the shop had been smashed open.

"They had tried to jimmy the side door and couldn't get through, so they smashed the front door glass."

Nobody has been arrested or charged in connection with the robbery, but police said they are investigating.

They also encouraged the public to get in touch with any information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a break in to and theft from a premises on Grant Street, Burghead at around 1.55am on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

“Enquiries are at an early stage and ongoing.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0445 of November 20, 2022.”

Mr Wilson was surprised that no other items were taken from the shop.

He said: "They left a very nice crowbar on the counter and barely took anything.

"The only thing that seemed to be missing was a set of vapes worth about £50.

"But the cigarettes are all here, cash all here from the till, booze all here, nothing else taken.

"So they were obviously spooked by the alarm.

"The Police were nearby and they were here within minutes. They were very good."
