A SCALED-BACK, socially distanced version of a popular Moray Christmas show will go ahead this year.

Let It Snow will be back for 2020, to be staged at Elgin's Moray Sports Centre on Friday and Saturday, December 18 and 19.

Forte Productions, the company which puts on the fundraiser show, had struggled to find a suitable venue that would allow the production to go ahead safely and within the parameters of coronavirus restrictions.

However, Forte has found a way with the help and collaboration of the management at Moray Sports Centre.

Let It Snow began in 2015, as a fundraiser for Lucy’s Fight – a local campaign set up by Moray woman Lucy Lintott, the youngest person in Scotland living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Lucy’s Fight raises money for the charity MND Scotland and awareness of MND.

The musical extravaganza will look a little different to previous outings, but Buckie-born producer Ryan MacKenzie aims to put on the best possible concert while sticking to the government guidelines.

Ryan said: "We’re all disappointed that we’re still living under these tight conditions, and sadly, we can’t put on the full-scale glitz that people have come to expect from Let It Snow.

"However, we wanted to give the people of Moray something to look forward to this Christmas and, more importantly, still raise money for Lucy’s Fight – a charity dear to the hearts of us all."

The sixth 'Let It Snow' Christmas concert will return this year in scaled-back form at Elgin's Moray Sports Centre.
The sixth 'Let It Snow' Christmas concert will return this year in scaled-back form at Elgin's Moray Sports Centre.

This year’s Let it Snow will have a capacity for approximately 100 audience members and seating will be arranged to maintain the required two-metre distance rule.

Ryan added: "We’ve been supporting this cause since our first show six years ago and we wanted to try our very best to ensure we could continue with our fundraising again this year, despite the circumstances we all find ourselves in.

"We will still have all the Christmas favourites, and we will make it as special as we possibly can.

"It would be wonderful if everyone would come out and support us and get some much-needed festive cheer in the process."

Iain McWhirter, head of fundraising at MND Scotland, said: "I cannot believe this will be the sixth Let it Snow event for Lucy’s Fight campaign.

"Although this year will be a different experience, I know everyone involved will make it a show to remember as usual.

"Every penny raised from local events like this will go towards helping us provide vital practical, emotional and financial support to families affected by MND, and fund pioneering research which is taking us closer to a cure.

"I want to thank everyone who has supported MND Scotland during these very difficult and uncertain times. People with MND need us more than ever, and with your help we can make sure no one goes through MND alone."

As numbers are restricted, the producers are urging people to book tickets soon to avoid disappointment.

Tickets, costing £20 and £15 for under-16s, are on sale now from Forte Productions on 07935 254809 or by emailing kyra@forteproductions.co.uk.
