POLICE helped ensure a relatively quiet time in terms of local crime over December.

Inspector for Forres, Andrew Meikleham, confirmed officers were on foot patrol, engaging with pubs and patrons – work which is ongoing in the new year.

He said: “The festive period can be a difficult time for people with mental health problems so we provided assistance, signposting partner agencies. Police Scotland also ran our drink/drug drive campaign.”

Police are conducting speed checks after concerns were raised by residents. Several motorists have been dealt with.

Through local intelligence and proactive patrols, vehicles were also stopped for controlled drugs.

Police attended when a vehicle damaged stationary motors in a residential area. The male driver then damaged the attending police vehicle. He was charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Another male was reported for driving in Forres without a valid insurance certificate and a further motorist for driving under the influence of alcohol.

There were a number of instances of antisocial behaviour, violence and disorder. During a patrol, police stopped a male who was searched and found in possession of controlled drugs. He was issued with a recorded warning. During a separate inquiry, another male was searched and found in possession of controlled drugs. He was charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Police have been disrupting those believed to be supplying controlled drugs,” said Insp Meikleham, “as well as those driving under the influence of drugs. Work continues to identify those who use the road network to supply drugs.”

There were reports of antisocial behaviour by youths, one involved shouting and causing a nuisance in Forres. Another involved items being thrown at a residential property. Proactive patrols of both areas are now taking place.

There was one report of a domestic nature in Forres. A female was charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A female teenager was reported to police for throwing a snowball at a teacher.

Unfortunately there were also instances of acquisitive crime during the reported period. A residential home was broken into and items of low value taken. Police are following positive lines of inquiry. A theft from a home in the Kintessack area was also reported. A male has been charged. Finally, alcohol was stolen at a supermarket in Forres.
