Police in Forres are appealing for information following a wilful fireraising within woodland to the rear of Shieldaig Road.

The fire was located at the base of a tree and reported at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, June 14.

It was extinguished by the fire service before it could spread.

A number of youths were seen in the area and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

PC Kelsey Green said: "This fire could have potentially developed into a very serious incident, either by spreading to the nearby properties or because of toxic fumes from the tyres involved."

"We are carrying out enquiries and are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 4639 of June 14."

Contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
