A POPULAR vintage car show returned to Grant Park for the first time in three years on Sunday.

Forres Theme Day has been a near constant fixture of the Forres events calendar for the past 50 years.

However, the event had to take a covid-enforced break in 2020.

But it finally made its long awaited return on Sunday with a variety of cars, motorcycles and steam engines from the past 100 years on show.

This year's event also introduced a brand new category known as 'Show and Shine' which accepted vehicles which don't fit the more traditional categories.

Chairman Robbie Paterson said that the event will return next year after its future had been put in doubt over the course of the pandemic.

He said: "After an enforced break because of covid and the loss of committee members for various reasons it has been three years since the last show.

"All but three of the committee are new and show day was a steep learning curve for them.

"But despite the weather, we had a very good and varied turn out of entries. The committee, although being new, set about their allotted tasks with enthusiasm.

"We also rely upon volunteers to ensure everything goes smoothly and given the weather on the day we are grateful for their help.

"The show has evolved over the years and we are always looking for fresh ideas to keep entrants and spectators alike coming back year after year.

"This year we put on a Show and Shine class for the first time it was popular with the entrants and spectators. We hope that next year this class will grow.

He added: "With the positive feedback we have had, we can say that the show was a success despite the weather.

"I have to thank the committee and volunteers who come back again and again to help. Also to all the sponsors who continue to support theme day. Without that support the show simply would not go on.

"We will be back on the first Sunday in May next year."
