THE owners of two World War I medals are being sought by Grampian Police who found them amongst stolen property recovered from a thief.

The two distinctive medals were recovered while police made enquiries into a string of offences committed by a man in the Moray, Aberdeen, and Northern Constabulary areas.

Constable Kate Barnett, from the Elgin local policing team, who led the enquiry said that during the course of enquiries into a number of thefts, a number of items were recovered.

"Most of this property has been reunited with the rightful owners," she said. "However, these two medals, which are likely to be of great sentimental value to someone, still need to be identified."

Police believe the medals could belong to someone in the Moray, Aberdeen, or Northern area. Each medal has a name on it that will allow them to immediately identify the correct owners if they come forward.

Police are especially keen to hand over the medals to the owners before Remembrance Sunday as it seems fitting they should have them on this day.

Anyone who has information regarding the owners of the medals should contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700.
