PEOPLE over the age of 55 are being invited to try a free laughter yoga taster class in Forres next week.

The uplifting workshop will take place in The Garden Room at Forres Community Centre on Monday, October 11, at 2pm.

The class is part of First Time for Everything programme, designed by Royal Voluntary Service to give people an opportunity to try something new for free in their local community.

Laughter yoga was developed 20 years ago by Indian medical doctor, Madan Kataria, who realised how much quicker his patients recovered when he involved laughter in their care.

The practice is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides similar physiological and psychological benefits to spontaneous laughter.

Local laughter yoga leader, Manda Stretch, will be hosting the class, and free light refreshments will be available afterwards.

The programme is supported by People’s Postcode Lottery. Their head of charities Laura Chow said: “First Time for Everything activities are a safe, gentle and enjoyable way to boost physical and mental health and wellbeing, particularly for those that are older or less mobile.

"Thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, local people can look forward to some great sessions.”

Booking for the free First Time for Everything laughter yoga class is essential as places are limited. To register, contact Sharon Finlay, Royal Voluntary Service activity co-ordinator, on 07974 415713 or email sharon.finlay@royalvoluntaryservice.co.uk.
