RESIDENTS over the age of 50 are invited to try a new, weekly, free social activity at Forres House Community Centre.

Active Minds Moray (AMM) has organised indoor bowling sessions on green bowling carpets to encourage local older people to play and make friends.

An AMM spokeswoman confirmed the first session is planned for Thursday, September 9 and they will continue every Thursday from 10.30am to midday.

She said: "Sharon Finlay will be running them with the assistance of volunteers Graham and Sam.

"The sessions offer the opportunity to try a new skill and meet new people. Participants will be made most welcome!"

Pilot sessions run in January and February 2020 were successful but had to be stopped in March due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

The spokeswoman added: "The group was popular and well attended. Typically, there were 10 to 12 people coming along for a game.

"Please book a slot by contacting me on 07974415713."

Moray Councillor Lorna Creswell (Forres, Independent) attended the sessions last year and confirmed AMM used funding from the Auchernack Trust to help start them.

She said: "The group will be glad to get back together for the companionship and gentle exercises which Sharon adapts to suit whoever shows up so people with less mobility can join in.

"AMM keeps people active and connected in body and mind. I wish them all the best."
