PERSONNEL at RAF Lossiemouth restarted group outdoor physical training this week.

The Scottish Government recently announced that groups of up to 15 can now take part in non-contact sport and exercise outside.

The station's fitness facilities have been closed in line with gyms across the UK due to the pandemic.

While indoor gyms on the base remain closed, instructor-led outdoor physical training sessions resumed on Monday, March 15.

Personnel will train in groups both on and off camp.

For 51 Sqn RAF Regiment, stationed at Lossiemouth, training will be ramped up as the Force Protection Specialists need to be fighting fit to operate in some very physically demanding conditions.

Station Training Officer Eleanor Milne said: "Maintaining motivation and keeping morale high amongst our personnel has been paramount during lockdown.

"We are heavily invested in the health and wellbeing of our entire workforce.

"Providing fitness opportunities and advice remotely has been a new challenge that the physical education team have embraced, but we are very pleased to be able to offer face-to-face, instructor-led sessions outdoors again, whilst remaining within Covid guidelines."

Before restrictions were imposed, 51 Sqn often took runs on local beaches to add an extra challenge to their training. It is the station's intent to be able to do this again.

An RAF spokesperson said environmental health specialists have risk-assessed the training plans, ensuring that sessions will be Covid compliant.
