OVER-60s living in Moray can now sign up for new concessionary travel cards online for the first time.

The National Entitlement Card website, https://getyournec.scot/nec/, is now set up to take online applications from new applicants in the region.

Local councillor Tim Eagle and Anita Milne, chair of the council's Moray Forum Transport Steering Group, welcomed the news.

Cllr Eagle, leader of the Conservative group, said he had been contacted by a few local people about applying for the concessionary travel card as libraries and access points remained closed due to Covid-19.

Cllr Eagle said council staff had established an application method through the national website. He added: "For those living in a rural areas like Moray, we know that access to buses is very important, so it was a real shame that new applicants could not apply.

"With no date yet confirmed for reopening of libraries, Moray Council staff have worked hard to find another route and have now been able to work with the website to enable local people to apply online.

"The website is quick and easy to use, but if there are any problems then the Moray Council contact centre is there to help. They can be contacted on 0300 123 4565.

"I cannot thank staff at Moray Council enough for putting this into place. I raised issues about this following constituent enquiries a few weeks ago and I am delighted that the council have worked to find this solution."

Ms Milne said transport services were vital for people living in isolated communities across Moray.

She added: "This new service offers those over 60 who have not applied before a new way to apply for their National Entitlement Card, which is very welcome given the current closure of the libraries and access points.

"The various transport services on offer in Moray provide vital links for local people, whether that be accessing a doctor or going to the shops."

Ms Milne added that the transport forum had done considerable work to map the provision of services across Moray and invited local people to submit their views on how these can be further improved.
