One death and 62 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the last week in Moray

ONE death and 62 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray within the last week.

The area's death toll since the outbreak began is now 39, with a total of 1406 cases confirmed.

Of the 39 people to have died coronavirus-related deaths in Moray, 10 have had the virus mentioned on their death certificate, while 29 tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days.

The 62 cases confirmed in the area represents a slight increase on the 54 confirmed last week.

A number of these cases are linked to an outbreak at Walkers in Aberlour, where at least 38 cases have been confirmed.

The number of negative tests confirmed since March 21 is 748, which is a big increase on the 554 negative cases confirmed in last week's update.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 14,374 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 249 on the 14,125 reported last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

The outbreak of Covid-19 at Walkers in Aberlour can now be seen on this map, with 21 cases confirmed in South Speyside and the Cabrach between March 22 and March 28.

There were also six cases confirmed in North Speyside.

Elsewhere, Buckie and Elgin have a number of positive cases of the virus.

Elgin has 24 positive cases (Elgin Cathedral to Ashgrove and Pinefield 6; Elgin Central West 6; New Elgin East 4; Bishopmill East and Ladyhill 4; Bishopmill West and Newfield 4) while Buckie has seven (Buckie West and Mains of Buckie 4; Buckie East 3).

The three other areas with more than three positive cases are: Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry (six), Lhanbryde, Urquhart, Pitgavney and seaward (five), Burghead, Roseisle and Laich (three).

An area will only be highlighted if there are three or more cases of Covid-19.

Scotland-wide update

Today's daily update shows 542 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus overnight, with six deaths of people who tested positive for the virus confirmed.

During the week ending March 31, 34,561 people were newly-tested with 3534 testing positive for the first time. That's an decrease on the 4307 people who tested positive last week from 31,336 tests.

Since the outbreak began, 1,821,122 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 218,432 positive and 1,602,690 negative.

During the week ending March 28, 61 deaths were registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. That's a reduction on the 65 deaths confirmed last week.

That takes Scotland's death toll since the outbreak began to 9958*. A total of 7602 of those died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 21 people are in intensive care in relation to Covid-19, with 237 patients in hospital.

In total, 15,005 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5, 2020.
