Highland and Moray Children's Panel are looking for new members.

Highland and Moray children's panel are currently on the lookout for fresh faces to sit on the panel. Part of the Children's Hearings Scotland (CHS) system, the panel is searching for adults who are good listeners, caring, compassionate and reliable.

Panel members' main role is to listen and make legal decisions with and for infants, children and young people. They are there to ensure that the young person is at the heart of every decision taken.

CHS offer support to members and training is provided to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in their role.

A part of the ongoing training programme, members will be equipped with a huge range of transferable skills. These include developing skills in dealing with complex issues and communicating these with empathy and compassion when working with children, young people and families; principles and practices within the children’s hearings system, including law and procedure; chairing hearings; decision making and protecting rights.

Other skills include leadership, teamwork, analytical thinking and decision making.

Appointment to the panel is for an initial three-year period with the possibility of extending this through reappointment.

As part of the role, a panel member in Highland and Moray will be expected to commit to sit on hearings for a minimum of two days per six weeks and also sustain good practice by attending a minimum of four additional sessions of learning and development training each year.

Those interested in the opportunity who have queries, or would just like to chat to someone about volunteering in the CHS, should contact the Clerk for Highland and Moray, Carol Maragh on (01463) 702120 or via email at carol.maragh@chscotland.scot

Further information, plus an online application form, is available at https://www.chscotland.gov.uk/volunteering-with-us/panel-members/

The deadline for applications is February 15.
