A CHARITY offering mental health support has been awarded more than £3500 - generated by natural energy.

Let’s All Talk North East Mums (LATNEM) will use £3,650 from the Berry Burn wind farm Community Fund towards quarterly peer support meetings in Forres.

Group co-founder Linsey Singers confirmed the meetings will be hosted in local café My Little World of Play from early 2024 for mums and birthing people who need support with their mental health. LANTEM attendees will have exclusive access to a play area for any children attending.

She said: “The funding environment has become particularly challenging due to the cost of living crisis so it’s brilliant to have local funds which benefit local people.”

Having suffered from severe depression following the birth of her son Jack in 2016, Linsey is passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding maternal mental ill health and pushing for effective prevention, detection and treatment of perinatal mental illness.

She said: “Given the rurality of the area, there is often a geographical and financial barrier to local mothers and birthing people attending support meetings, mental health services and mother and baby mental health units. The Berry Burn funding will reimburse travel costs for those who would otherwise not be able to travel to the support they need.”

The funding will also be used to provide registered childcare for service users.

LATNEM leaflets distributed to local health centres and third sector organisations will raise awareness of the support and care packs containing mindful activities will be given to service users.

“Anyone who attends a LATNEM meeting will benefit from our comprehensive peer support service,” said Linsey. “The meetings offer the opportunity to feel supported, cared for and less alone.”

LANTEM attendees benefit from: access to a free a resource library full of self help and reference books about mental health recommended by a psychologist; group psychology; group EFT sessions; mindfulness evenings; signposting and referrals to third sector organisations; Beyond Birth mental wellbeing courses; subsidised access to private therapies; registered childcare to allow attendance of mental health appointments without children; self care and crisis packs; creative journaling sessions and more.
