CUPID’s arrow should strike at a new event being organised in a local pub.

Moray Speed Dating for 25 to 45-year-olds at The Carisbrooke offers a fun, face-to-face alternative to online dating.

Organiser Fiona Macintosh is pleased people are keen to give it a go.

She explained: “I asked folk to fill out a survey to find out what they are looking for and who would be interested in attending ... It appears that plenty people in Moray are looking for another way to find love!”

The plan is to create a relaxed space for singles to meet. Each pairing will have five minutes to chat before they move onto the next person, with time at the end of the night to mingle and have a drink.

Fiona said: “Everyone will get to know someone new and hope that sparks will fly!”

At the end, participants submit a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties.

Face-to-face speed dating is believed to be more efficient than internet dating in terms of match-ups.

According to the New York Times, participants in speed dating experience an average of three in 10 matches. Online dating participants, in contrast, only find a compatible match with one in 100 or fewer of the profiles they study. As reported by the BBC in the ‘Science of Love’, it only takes between 90 seconds to four minutes of face-to-face interaction to determine attraction.

Fiona finds online dating “tricky”.

She said: “Face-to-face is more fruitful but due to covid and other factors, people don’t socialise the way we used to. I want to create a space where you know everyone in the room is looking to find someone to share life with. Exciting things usually come from trying something new!”

Moray Speed Dating is on at The Carisbrooke from 8pm on Friday, May 12. Email morayspeeddating@gmail.com for more information.
