THE community is being invited to comment on plans for a new overhead power line near Forres.

Maps showing two corridors and detailing key considerations will be discussed at Forres Town Hall from 2-7pm on Wednesday, September 21.

A spokesperson for SSEN Transmission said: “The public consultations are an opportunity to share with the community our proposals to upgrade the transmission network from Beauly to Peterhead. There are two potential corridor options for the section area which includes Forres, with the preferred option running several kilometres south of the town. We welcome all views on our initial proposals and we’ll take on board any feedback. We would encourage anyone with an interest to come along to meet the project team and learn more about our proposals, which will help facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy and a net zero future.”

A new overhead electricity transmission line between Beauly, Blackhillock, New Deer and Peterhead has been identified to deliver government 2030 targets for offshore wind.

The proposed project will involve building a new 400kV overhead line connection. Additional substation infrastructure will also be required, either extensions to existing substation sites, or new sites.
