New Moray travel book set to be released on November 30

A NEW book about Moray is set to be released at the end of the month.

'Moray Speyside: A Travel Guide' was written by Iona Grant, from Burghead, and is set to detail many of the area's attractions.

The book, published by IGB Publishing, will be released on Tuesday, November 30.

Iona, who now lives in London with her husband, describes Moray as "often overlooked" and a "hidden gem".

She said: "I grew up in Burghead and am passionate about sharing this hidden gem of a holiday destination.

"Moray Speyside covers everything from picturesque fishing villages to a secret seminary in the remote hills of The Cabrach.

"Readers will discover the region’s links to Shakespear’s Macbeth, explore stunning Victorian gardens at a Speyside distillery and find out where to have some luxurious whisky ice cream.

"The book is also packed with ideas for outdoor activities, distillery tours, and festivals – and also has handy travel tips to help visitors get the most from their trip."

Many places in the vicinity of Forres will be mentioned in the book – including Brodie Castle and Grant Park.

There is also mention of the more than 50 distilleries in Moray, the various Highland Games and unique events such as the burning of The Clavie in Burghead.

More modern attractions such as windsurfing in Findhorn and the Scottish Whale and Dolphin Centre in Spey Bay are also mentioned.

The book will cost £8.99 and will be available as several locations in Moray.

So far, orders have been confirmed at Burghead Post Office, Mither Tongue in Keith, Glen Moray in Elgin, The Gallery in Aberlour and Miele's of Lossie.

It is hoped that more locations will confirm orders of the book in due course.
