A FREE drinking water tap in Grant Park that has not worked since July is being fixed in October.

Scottish Water installed the fountain off Victoria Road next to the Sunken Gardens on June 9 and made it operational on June 23 but it stopped flowing a few weeks later.

A utility spokesperson confirmed the top-up tap was temporarily removed from service on July 6.

She explained: “There is a damaged connection to a fragile section of the water main - to resolve this we need to access the carriageway.

“However there are other utilities with works planned in the area, so we’re co-ordinating around these to minimise any potential disruption.”

The bright blue tap is opposite the Masonic Hall on the High Street. Scottish Water taps are already operating in Nairn and Elgin.

Moray Council has granted Scottish Water access for repairs on October 23.

The spokesperson added: “The tap will be made operational again as soon as possible thereafter.

“Taps already operating in Nairn and Elgin, provide meeting places and let people access free, world-class water.”
