The Mosset Burn is sparkling for summer after Forres Fire Station undertook their annual May-weekend litter pick-up.

The team retrieved almost 30 bags of rubbish from the burn and removed some stranger items, including traffic cones and a double-mattress.

It took four hours for the rubbish to be collected as the fire station sweated it out from midday until 4pm.

Head of the fire station, Stuart Donald, said: “We have lots of people who stop and applaud what we are trying to do and just generally have a chat.

“They are happy to see the place looking a bit tidier.

“It’s kind of well-known that we clean the burn at May weekend – people know it’s a yearly sort of event.”

Stuart hopes that the burn, now newly-refreshed, will encourage more people down to the area and make it more accessible for local groups.

He said: “It’s a well-known piece of water and a really beautiful part of the town so that’s why we like to keep it clean.

“Other groups within the town use the burn, like the Scouts for their duck races, so this makes it so much easier for them to organise their events.”

The Fire Station was supported by MacLean’s Bakery, who brought down pastries and pies to tide them over during the clean.

Stuart said: “It was very nice of MacLean’s; they have always been a big help to the fire station and support everything we do.”
