MORE than 75 business and community representatives are set to attend a summit aimed at improving Moray's town centres.

Moray's Town Centre Summit, run by the region's Chamber of Commerce, will bring businesses, public sector organisations and charities together to discuss ideas on how to improve the high streets of local towns.

The free event will run on Thursday, May 4, from 9am until 2pm – with a networking lunch provided by Johnstons of Elgin.

Sarah Medcraf, chief executive of Moray Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the event's importance and invited other local stakeholders to attend.

"We need to work together as a community to create a shared vision for our town centres," she said.

"This means engaging with local businesses, community groups, and government organisations to understand all needs and priorities.

"The Moray Town Centre Summit will provide us with an initial platform to explore opportunities within our reach in the short, medium and long term.

"The ideas and outcomes from this event will influence future ambitions and decisions as a region.

"All business, charities, community groups and public sector organisations are welcome to attend the summit and share their vision for Moray's town centres."

Moray Council are supporting the event. Gary Templeton, strategic planning and development manager with the council, added: "We are delighted to support the town centre summit.

"It's an opportunity to bring local people together to discuss how we can work to address the challenges facing our town centres and to share experiences from elsewhere in Scotland.”

Phil Prentice, chief officer of Scotland's Town Partnership and Scott Mackay, executive director of Midsteeple Quarter, are two of the main speakers.

Viktoria Eriksson, development leader at Dufftown Community Association and Ewen Mackintosh, managing director at Gordon and MacPhail, will also talk to those in attendance.

There will be six break-out sessions on during the five hours, run by a variety of local groups, with guests invited to attend two.
