Rotary Club of Forres used a grant from the Auchernack Trust Fund to offer invited guests free afternoon tea at the Mosset Tavern
MORE than 100 senior guests enjoyed an afternoon tea in Forres thanks to a local postie’s legacy.
Rotary Club of Forres is using a grant from the Auchernack Trust Fund for food and drink at the Mosset Tavern for elderly invited guests twice this year - 122 enjoyed the first meal on Wednesday, March 20.
Rotary secretary Sheena MacGillivray confirmed the next one will be late October or early November.
She said: “The afternoon tea went well. It started at 2pm but some guests arrived early to ensure they had a seat with their friends.
“They enjoyed sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones and cakes … The savouries were especially popular!
“Tea and coffee was served to help wash it down.”
Entertainment was provided by musicians Chris Stepien and Willie James.
“They included some popular songs,” said Sheena. “The seniors enjoyed singing along to them.”
Names of potential attendees are provided by local organisations including churches, carers and more. Letter invitations are delivered personally by Rotarians.
“We have an extensive list of seniors in our community,” explained Sheena. “We try to ensure we get some different participants on each occasion.”
The Auchernack Trust is what remains of a donation of £750,000 left by late Forres postie William Cameron for the benefit of residents of Auchernack Care Home. The Forres Moray Councillors and Community Council chairman meet twice-annually to choose projects to fund which benefit the elderly community in the Forres area.
