Former Elgin Academy pupil Ross Burgess cooked up a storm last night to win his heat of BBC1's MasterChef: The Professionals.

One happy chef.
One happy chef.

Ross claimed victory with a mouth-watering sirloin of Aberdeen Angus covered with a beef and oyster sauce, followed by a vanilla and yoghurt terrine.

Michelin-starred chef Marcus Wareing called Ross' meal a "triumph", while the show's main presenter, Gregg Wallace, told him he had a "great touch".

Just how much it all meant to the 31-year-old, who studied cookery at Moray College, was clear to see.

After the show aired, he commented: "Emotional breakdown aside I feel that went not too bad."

Ross is now through to the quarter finals of the show, which will be screened tonight at 9pm on BBC1.
