Coronavirus and lockdown have sadly seen the closures of many well-known companies and caused a high number of job losses.

However Moray Business Gateway has confirmed that, despite the undoubted problems, new companies have also been springing up.

Moray's MSP Richard Lochhead welcomed all these new ventures and also praised the efforts of Moray Business Gateway to support local businesses and entrepreneurs throughout this challenging period.

He said: "There is no getting away from the fact that the last four months have been incredibly challenging for local businesses and the Moray economy.

"However, there has been some positive news and I very much welcome the fact that over 50 new business ventures started locally since June.

"And these are only the ones that have been in touch with Business Gateway."

Moray Business Gateway helped 14 new ventures in June, 18 in July, and 20 in the first week of August.

Mr Lochhead added: "The team at Moray Business Gateway have been working flat out since the start of the pandemic to support existing businesses and to help those looking to start up on their own.

"They deserve huge credit for their efforts.

"These new start ups have been helped along the way by Moray Business Gateway’s intervention.

"I wish every one of these new start ups every success and I’d encourage anyone considering self-employment to get in touch with the Moray Business Gateway team for advice and support."
