PROPOSALS by Moray Council to downgrade administrators rate of pay and cut their hours as well as scrapping the role of clerical assistants in primary schools and nurseries, has seen Moray's MSP get involved in the debate.

Richard Lochhead says he has been contacted by parents and staff anxious about the potential moves.

Unison Moray has criticised the plans, pointing out that the biggest impact will be on low-paid staff, many of whom are women, in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.

Mr Lochhead said: “I’m sure these proposals to cut vital admin staff will be a worrying shock to parents, staff and the wider school community.

“These staff do an incredibly tiring and relentless job, often going above and beyond their own responsibilities, and cutting their hours will have a negative knock on effect to other staff in the school.

“While a consultation with staff is underway and no final decision has been taken yet, it is important that the council hear from all those opposed to these changes and I will be calling on the council to ensure the school community are able to voice their concerns.”
