A study, commissioned by CarInsurance.ae, analysed Department of Transport data from the seven years leading up to 2020.

Judging by the rate of reported road accidents per 1000 people, it found all five of the safest regions are located Scotland.

However Moray with had an average of just 70 accidents per year – or 0.74 accidents per 1000 people – has come top.

In second place is East Dunbartonshire with 0.75, with Orkney third at 0.79, Aberdeen fourth at 0.82 and East Renfrewshire the fifth safest with 0.86.

On the other side of the coin, the five most dangerous places in Britain are all in London.

Westminster recorded an average of 1499 accidents – or 5.5 accidents per 1000 people – meaning drivers are more than seven times likely to be in an accident there than in Moray.
