A PAIR of Moray groups have donated more than £1000 to Clan Cancer Support.

Moray Loons and Quines donated £600, while Moray and Nairn Masons handed over a cheque for £470.

Mark Ross, who is a member of both groups, said raising awareness of cancer - especially prostate cancer and its affects on men - was crucial.

Moray Loons and Quines is a group of ex-Highlanders and Queens Own Highlanders that meets around once a year.

The group of about 35 gathered at the Seaforth Club in Elgin to have a raffle and a spread of food, with the money - for the tenth successive year - going to a local charity.

The Moray and Nairn Masons held a Burns Night at the same venue, which was attended by 52 people. Again, a raffle was held and the proceeds given to Clan.

“We gave the money to Clan because one of Moray Loons and Quines’ old members, who passed away a couple of months ago, was looked after by them,” Mr Ross said.

“My granddaughter had cancer when she was five and Clan helped her too, as well as a colleague’s wife.

“It’s not government funded and all money goes to them. Plus, it’s Clan Moray so it’s local and the money stays in the area.

“Prostate cancer doesn’t just affect people over a certain age. It’s basically from 18 onwards and a lot of people don’t think about it. So it’s all about raising awareness.”
