A man who broke both a curfew and a patio window has been ordered to do unpaid work for the community.

Connor Hay appeared from custody at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.

The 23-year-old had gone to see his mum in Forres on October 8, and had found his dad at the property as well.

Fiscal depute Emma Petersen said: "The accused visited during the course of the afternoon then left again to go to some local pubs.

"At about 9pm he returned to the address.

"He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and immediately towards them.

"He was complaining that he had been barred from various pubs that night.

"He was angry and was pacing up and down the living room."

The court heard that Hay's mother had a broken ankle, and that he threatened to strike it.

He then came back and claimed he was going to stab his father.

The police were called and Hay left the property.

When officers arrived at the house they discovered a car outside with a smashed window.

Once inside, they heard a loud shattering noise.

This turned out to be the patio window.

Hay was later apprehended.

He pleaded guilty yesterday to breaking a curfew previously imposed by the court.

This meant he should have been inside his own home between 7pm-7am.

He also admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner.

Defence solicitor Ben Thom stated his client, whose address was given in court papers as Chapel Court, Elgin, was both apologetic and remorseful

Hay was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work for the community during the next 12 months.

He was also placed under the court's supervision for the same period.
