The council will fall silent at 11am this morning to recognise the struggles of Ukrainian forces and citizens and remember those who have lost their lives to the conflict.

Moray Council currently supports 126 Ukrainian refugees – 82 adults and 44 children – across the region as the war in their country rages on.

Councillor Kathleen Robertson, council leader, said: “I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on Russia’s war against Ukraine, which is causing immense human suffering and destruction.

"We continue to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and the brave citizens battling on with daily life there. Our thoughts are with all those affected.

"I also want to thank the people of Moray who have shown incredible generosity by sending aid to Ukraine and great kindness in welcoming Ukrainians displaced by the invasion into our homes and community."

The council confirmed that they will continue to fly the flag of Ukraine from its headquarters in Elgin.
