Volunteers are wanted to hear appeals within Moray against both the refusal of school places and exclusions from the classroom.

The School Placings and Exclusions Appeal Committee meets several times a year, dependent on need.

A lay member of the committee can be the parent of a school-age child or someone acquainted with the educational conditions in Moray.

Members receive initial training to cover the legal requirements of making decisions.

They will also observe a committee session prior to taking part.

Anyone interested should draft a personal statement, giving background information about themselves and explaining their interest in becoming a member of the committee.

Sent this to Tracey Sutherland at committee.services@moray.gov.uk.

Note that as part of the work of the committee may involve interaction with children, a check through the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme is required.
