Moray Tories unveil council group leadership team

TWO newly-elected councillors have been selected to co-lead the Conservative group on Moray council.
The Tories emerged from the May 5 local authority poll as the largest single grouping on the council with 11 out of the 26 seats.
Taking over the leadership post from former Buckie councillor Tim Eagle, who stepped down at the election, are newly elected Buckie councillor Neil McLennan and Councillor Kathleen Robertson (Forres).
Both bring with them a wealth of experience from their respective fields of education and veterinary science.
Councillor McLennan said it heralded a new beginning for the council group.
He continued: “Moray Conservatives not only returned ‘a full house’ of candidates but also have a hugely talented and experienced team across a range of public sector areas.
"Our new leadership team reflects our co-operative and collaborative approach which will aim to get the best of that expertise for the people of Moray.
"Moray voters have placed great faith in us. We now want to get on and deliver for the people of Moray whilst challenging the SNP's damaging budget cuts to councils. Kathleen, I and the Conservative councillors are committed to promoting Moray in every way we can.”
Councillor Robertson commented: “Moray Conservatives are committed to delivering a team approach and will work hard to ensure the voters will be deserving of a hard-working group of councillors serving the people of Moray.
"I am delighted to share the position of group leader with Neil with the support of the Conservative Councillors. We also must thank the voters for putting their trust in us and we promise to have them at the forefront of our decisions going forward.”
Craig Stewart-Toner, the interim chair of the Moray Conservatives, added: “After our most successful council election ever in Moray and possibly one of the best results in the UK for the Conservatives, we maintained our 100 per cent election rate in council elections and by-elections since 2017, the people of Moray have yet again trusted us to deliver for them.
"Our new leadership team will demonstrate why it is important Conservative and Unionist voices lead from the front; ensuring our council is funded appropriately, vital local services are kept local and promoting the very best of what Moray has to offer.”
