THE Moray and Nairn Family History Society has announced the release of a new book.

Titled Monumental Inscriptions from Nairn Cemetery (1918 Section), the book is a transcript of the gravestones from the cemetery from the 1918 extension.

It is unclear why this section of the cemetery is named the 1918 extension as it was in use for quite a number of years before 1918.

Nairn Cemetery was originally opened in 1864 and this area recorded was the first extension and contains graves from the 1900s to the 1950s with some later ones too.

Monumental Inscriptions from Nairn Cemetery notes in detail the complete inscription from each stone.

More than 2000 stones were recorded by members of the Moray & Nairn Family History Society between 2018 and 2020 and included is a general layout plan and an index of surnames.

This work by the Moray and Nairn Family History Society follows on from the completion of the monumental inscriptions for the churchyards at Ardclach, Auldearn and Cawdor.

This new publication and the previous publications can be purchased through the Nairn Bookshop, Nairn and Yeadons Bookshop, Elgin.
