CLOSE to £6000 has been raised by a fund-raising football match which took place in Forres in November.

Mental Mechanics, set up by Forres boys but based in Edinburgh, made the journey north to take on welfare outfit Carisbrooke on November 5 at Mosset Park.

The match took place in memory of Forres locals Charlie Tull and Martin Scott – and it has now been announced that £5920 was raised.

The cash will be split between Mental Mechanics, Mikeysline, Moray Food Plus and Moray MS Support Group.

Mental Mechanics chairman Fin Anderson thanked the local community for helping raise the cash – describing the match as a "great success".

"It is an unbelievable amount of money and it was only achieved through the generosity and commitment of the local community," he said.

"I cannot thank everyone that helped the occasion be such a great success enough. We hope to be back again.

"The club wishes everyone that supports us a happy and fun 2022. Make sure to keep in contact with close friends and family as you don’t know when people might need support.

"Receiving that support can be the most uplifting feeling for someone."

Carisbrooke won the match 3-2, in front of a crowd in excess of 200, with plans for a rematch in the future.

Steve Gray, who has been living with Secondary Progressive MS for 25 years, had a personal connection to the match and was delighted to see money donated to Moray MS Support Group.

Moray MS Support Group offers people suffering from the disease therapy sessions and a place to talk without prejudice.

He said: "The co-manager of Carisbrooke, Liam, has been the partner of my oldest daughter Charlotte for six years now. He has seen first hand how MS has affected me and my family.

"I was very proud of the guys for raising so much money for great causes and was delighted when Liam suggested giving some support to the local MS support group."

Emily Stokes, CEO of Mikeysline, said: "We are absolutely delighted and so grateful to Carisbrooke FC and Mental Mechanics FC for arranging this fundraiser.

"Not only have the teams raised much-needed funds, which will help us in keeping our services operational, they have also assisted us in raising awareness in their community of the fact that we are only a text away.

"We can be contacted for support via our digital textline services every night and we would encourage anyone who is in emotional distress or dealing with difficult thoughts or feelings, regardless of the reason, to reach out to us."

Mairi McCallum, project manager at Moray Food Plus, added: "We would like to give a big thank you to Mental Mechanics and all their supporters for the kind donation.

"We have had an exceptionally busy Christmas and this donation will help us moving into 2022, which we anticipate being busier than ever."
