Moray's MSP says it's vital a suitable number of beds remain available locally for mental health patients while Ward 4 is refurbished at Dr Gray's Hospital.

Richard Lochhead has welcomed news that the ward at the Elgin hospital is about to be modernised.

However he has urged NHS Grampian to ensure that treatment is not adversely effected while the work is taking place.

The MSP said: "It's clear from the health board's response that the demand on mental health services in Moray and across Grampian is greater than ever before.

"This investment, alongside the construction of the MRI scanner, will clearly mean some disruption at Dr Gray’s while work is carried out.

"NHS Grampian must ensure that access to and quality of care is not impacted during that period.

"That means the health board must ensure in-patient beds for mental health patients are available in Moray throughout these works.

Mr Lochhead continued: "I intend to be in regular contact with NHS Grampian as plans for this work progress.

"If any constituents have concerns about these services locally then they are welcome to get in touch with my office."
