Residents at Meadowlark Care Centre in Forres had to rein in their excitement last week so as not to spook a very special visitor - Shetland therapony Edward.

The suggestion for the unusual visit came at monthly residents' meetings and the idea took off from there.

Through a member of staff, the residents were put in touch with Trots of Fun Pony Parties and Events, based at Leanach Farm Stables, near Inverness, run by Sandi Elliot.

Meadowlark was abuzz with excitement as residents prepared for Edward's arrival and speculated how small he would be.

Adorable Edward spread smiles wherever he trotted, delighting residents as he was led through the complex, meeting people in their rooms, the communal lounge and out in the garden, as people swooned "he's just so lovely".

One resident, a keen horse rider, led Edward out to the garden and was left visibly enlivened by the experience.

All at Meadowlark are agreed that they can't wait for Edward to come back.
