THIS year’s Mark Duffus Memorial Golf event raised nearly £12,000 for worthy causes.
Organiser and Mark’s father, Albert Duffus, confirmed Poppy Scotland will receive £4k, Erskine and Leanchoil Trust £4k, Forres and District Pipe Band £1k, Army Benevolent Fund - The Soldiers’ Charity £800, Cancer Research UK £900, Forres Junior Golf £500, and Matty Wilson’s travel expenses £800.
He said: “Dave Torrance at the club supports young players and Matty is representing Forres in amateur golf - he’s a fantastic player.
“The fundraising was excellent - we had great support for the charities and from Forres Golf Club.
“Thank you to everyone for the support, especially our main sponsor Danny Donovan of Phoenix Roadmarkings and others including Cluny Estate Agents, Fraser Fire and Security Services, Edmundson Electrical and Ashers Bakery.”
A total of 78 players took part in the event from as far away as Newcastle and included a number of former service personnel.
Best scratch was J Brown (Aberdeen); best handicap: R McKerron; Stapleford: S Sutherland; over-65 best scratch: A Duffus.
“We were lucky with the weather,” added Albert. “It was a fine day and the course was in excellent condition as usual.”
Albert remains a keen golfer and is currently playing off a very respectable handicap of 5.6.
“At 72-years-old, not bad,” he said. “I have to play really well to try and win competitions, which at my age is more difficult!”
