A Moray man has pleaded guilty to sending a threatening email to the office of Douglas Ross the area's MP.

Mark Edwards appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court today where he admitted writing the message in the early hours of November 28.

The email, which he sent at 1.45am from his home in Lossiemouth, said: "You are a fud. The entire planet would be better without you, but I guess you already know that."

The 40-year-old then continued: "Why not do the honest thing and end your petty existence before someone older and wiser then yourself takes it upon them to pull the trigger, you ****** **** -face."

Fiscal depute Shamiela Ghafar told the court that the person who opened the email judged it to be "menacing" and contacted the police.

Edwards was subsequently arrested and charged.

When interviewed by police officers, the defendant apologised for what he's done.

Edwards pleaded guilty to a single charge that he had breached the Communications Act (2003) by sending a message that was threatening in character.

Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov noted that, in some other cases, verbal threats to politicians had ended up going beyond words and resulted in real harm.

With this in mind she ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared by social workers and adjourned the case to February 16.

Edwards, who lives on Dean Terrace, Lossiemouth, was granted bail.
