Man (99) dies after fire at Nairn flat

A Nairn pensioner who was rescued last week from a fire in his first floor flat has died.
Duncan Green was transferred from Raigmore Hospital in Inverness to St John’s in Livingston for treatment to his burns.
Sadly, though, he passed away this morning.
The 99-year-old retired forester was carried out of his flat during the incident at around 3pm last Wednesday.
He had been cooking when his dressing gown caught fire.
Plumber Des Mason, who was working in a neighbouring house, heard Mr Green’s cries for help from an upstairs window and asked him to throw down the keys to the door.
Neighbour John Urquhart had immediately contacted Mr Green’s son Johnny (71) who arrived within minutes with a key to the flat and Mr Mason went upstairs to help Mr Green out.
He was met on the stairs by fire crew who took Mr Green into the garden and treated him until an ambulance arrived.
Johnny said he could not thank everyone enough for all the help they gave his father.
Mr Green had lived in the flat, which is in a block of four, for many years.
