The majority of furloughed employees in Moray feel comfortable about returning to the workplace, according to a survey.

A total of 60% people replying to the Moray Chamber of Commerce questionnaire stated they felt confident.

However, with COVID-19 still a risk, many said they would like their employer to provide hand sanitizer.

Calls were also made for businesses to limit the number of visitors to the workplace as well as limit the time during which staff work together.

In addition, there was concern from 52% about having to wear a mask at work.

Sarah Medcraf, the chief executive of Moray Chamber of Commerce said: "Communication between staff and employers is key at the best of times, but it is absolutely crucial now.

"Everyone needs to work as a team and be open and flexible.

"Nobody is going back to the same workplace they left in March."

A total of 30% of Moray’s employees were originally placed on furlough during the first few weeks of the pandemic.

Now, following the implementation of Phase 2 of the Scottish Government’s Route Map, many businesses have either been able to reopen, or have been given a date when they can.

Nearly a hundred furloughed employees were surveyed and just over one in five said they will continue to work from home even as their workplaces start opening up.

Many others, however, expressed frustration that this was not a viable option for them because their digital connection at home is not good enough.

Mrs Medcraf added: “A total of 26% of respondents were concerned about childcare.

"Although we are now in the holidays and the home-schooling pressure has dropped, the balancing of home/work life can be tough.

"Communication is key, so I urge employers to speak to employees, and employees to reach out."

Moray Chamber of Commerce is also encouraging people working from home to still visit local shops, cafés and restaurants as their custom is needed now more than ever.
