Maclean's Highland Bakery shortlisted for The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards

A LOCAL baker’s produce has been shortlisted for national awards.

Maclean's Highland Bakery is again in the running for The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards - nearly 500 of the best pies on the market were delivered to Dunfermline by 78 of the best butchers, bakers and other pie makers in Scotland where 60 judges selected the ‘best of the best’.

Maclean’s managing director Lewis Maclean confirmed they have entered their 2018 world champion Scotch pie, steak pie, chicken and haggis pie, macaroni pie, and lasagne pie.

He said: “We entered our most popular products - we’ve made some small changes to them so fingers crossed they will be popular with this year’s finalist judge.”

Judges focus on taste, touch, appearance and smell across categories: Scotch Pie; Football Pies and Savouries; Macaroni Pie; Steak Pie; Sausage Roll; Hot Savoury; Vegetarian Savoury; Haggis Savoury; Bridie; and Apple Pies.

TV personality Carol Smillie will declare the the Scotch Pie World Champion along with all best in category winners at an awards lunch in the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld on January 16.

Scottish Bakers organises the annual competition to shine a light on the craft skills pie makers demonstrate.

Chief Executive Lesley Cameron said: “This is my first World Championship Scotch Pie Awards as CEO of Scottish Bakers and I have been amazed at the passion of each and every entrant, not to mention the creativity, quality and innovation.

“It’s always great to be recognising products which have been lovingly made from scratch from locally sourced ingredients, freshly made daily by skilled craftspeople.”
