A LOCAL award-winning business will celebrate its 20th birthday this week.

Mackenzie and Cruickshank is marking two decades on the Greshop Industrial Estate on Thursday, October 26.

The site - originally a call centre - was bought by Peter and Heather Wilson in 2003 and, following two extensions, is now unrecognisable.

Peter said: “We originally started with around 10 staff and now we employ 50 people, including a core of young employees which is important to the company’s ethos. It’s been a great 20 years but not without ups and downs including having to reconfigure our land due to the flood alleviation scheme and during covid when everyone had to make huge adjustments. Getting through these hurdles is testament to the hard work of the team and our customers.”

A half-a-million pound glass extension was opened by Beechgrove Garden presenter Carole Baxter in 2017. In the winter months, it is transformed into a winter wonderland.

Earlier this year, the company expanded again with a £750,000 eco-friendly extension, providing space for outdoor living and gardening products. The 500msq extension boasts solar panels, air source and under floor heating.

Last year, Mackenzie and Cruickshank was crowned SME of the Year at the Moray Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards.

The business has chosen to dedicate the next year to raising money for the Moray branch of the MS Society, 1st Forres Scout Group, Abbie’s Sparkle Foundation and Riding For the Disabled, starting off its efforts with a special event featuring ceilidh music and offers.

The charity night will take place on November 25 with anyone buying a £10 ticket automatically entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher. Half the ticket money is shared equally between the charities.
