MORAY and Banffshire Heroes is a way of saying a big ‘thank-you’ to the real-life heroes across the area, whether it’s those who go above and beyond the call of duty for their job or those who choose to spend their precious time and efforts to support others.

There will be a total of 13 categories, and one of those is the Brave Child Award – which will this year be sponsored by Macduff Shipyards.

The Brave Child will go to a youngster who has been strong in the face of considerable adversity – such as 2022’s winner, two-year-old James Goodwin, who has battled Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

James will undergo lumbar punctures every four months throughout his life, but hasn’t let that get in the way of him living his young life to the fullest so far.

Macduff Shipyards manager Matthew Watt is delighted to sponsor an award that recognises youngsters such as James.

“We are delighted to sponsor the ‘Brave Child Award’ and be part of the 2023 Moray and Banffshire Heroes Award," he said.

“With the company’s feet firmly placed in both Moray and Banffshire, we feel it is important to support our communities and acknowledge the inspirational kids, their great work, and selfless deeds.

“We chose to support the ‘Brave Child Award’ as we feel there is nothing more important in this world than children. To watch and learn about the nominated brave children at this year’s awards was heartening.

“We feel this award fits our company policy of taking on many young apprentices each year and trying to give them a good start in their careers.”

The Moray and Banffshire Heroes Awards will take place on Thursday, April 20, and will be sponsored by Inverness Airport.

The awards feature a total of 13 categories where you can nominate individuals or groups in your community.

New for 2023 is the Green Hero Award, which will be presented to an individual who is helping to create a cleaner, greener future.

In addition to the 12 main categories, there is a Hero of Heroes Award, which will be presented to the overall winner.

Nominate your heroes online at www.hnmedia.co.uk/highlandheroes by Friday, February 10, 2023, for them to be in with a chance of winning.
