Do you own a leather jacket? What does it mean to you? Does wearing it take you back to a particular time of your life?
The organisers of a local exhibition are calling for folk who own or have owned leather jackets to get in touch.
Curator for the event at Forres Town Hall this summer, Nahed Gadalla, explained: “This garment makes a statement when it’s put on.
“I can’t wait to hear people bringing the past to life with their stories and memories.”
The exhibition coincides with musical ‘Grease’ by the Highland Youth Theatre at the town hall.
Nahed added: “This will bring a ‘50s vibe but also evoke more recent memories.”
Gillian Murdoch, who runs Highland Youth Theatre, added: “To get a real 50s feel for the show, we needed leather jackets for the cast so we put out an appeal on Freecycle.
“One fantastic red jacket came from a local woman who told us that she’d bought it in Carnaby Street when she was 18, more than 40 years ago. It was a big part of her life which made us realise how much these costumes for our production mean to their owners. We’re so grateful to have them in our care.”
Grease will be staged by the Highland Youth Theatre from June 22-24, with ‘Full Leather Jacket’ exhibited in the Wee Gallery from mid-June.
