A BUSINESS based in Kinloss has won a national award for a product it launched earlier this year.

Wooha Brewing Company won a bronze in the Best IPA category at the fifth Scottish Beer Awards for their Hop Pinata IPA.

Wooha managing director Heather Mcdonald confirmed the competition involved 35 Scottish breweries and 314 beers, all blind tasted by an expert judging panel of over 30 experts.

She said: “We’re delighted that our team has been recognised for this award. It’s through their dedication to trying new brews that we constantly innovate. Hop Pinata launched this summer and has been well-received for its fruity flavour.”

Judges were invited to taste in pairs in a series of live socially distanced sessions compliant with Covid-19 guidance for hospitality.

Judging panel chairwoman Hilary Jones said: “Scottish breweries have shown resilience, looked after their staff, and continued to produce high-quality product despite a rapidly- changing business market. The Scottish Beer Awards has shown us the strength, skills and great people at the heart of our brewing sector, and we are delighted to reward the best of them with deserved recognition and medals.”

Over 200 people tuned in to watch the digital broadcast of the awards winners in a special show broadcast from Glasgow, presented by Des Clarke. The event included live interviews with winners in breweries across the country and guests were able to network via specially designed chat functions. The ceremony concluded a challenging year for the competition when the business panel had to assess written entries and make decisions via Zoom.
