A NEW cash machine was installed at Kinloss this week for villagers and personnel at its Army barracks.

The village is the sixth in Scotland to benefit from LINK's Community Request an ATM scheme.

Up until recently, the village’s only free-to-use cash machine was located within Kinloss Barracks and was not accessible to the wider public.

Locals were able to use the local Post Office counter service on the edge of the village.

After being notified that the barracks’ ATM was being closed, however, locals put in a request with LINK for a new free-to-use cash machine.

They asked that the new ATM be relocated to the barracks guardhouse, off the main B9089 road through the village, to make it easily accessible to the wider public.

After visiting Kinloss, LINK agreed that a new cash machine, funded by the banks, should be installed.

The request scheme was launched in 2019. LINK investigates each case raised and, where possible, funds new ATMs directly.

The network's head of financial inclusion, Nick Quin, said: "We’re delighted to support local residents and our armed forces.

"This the third machine we’ve installed near a military base and the sixth to go live in Scotland.

"We know more people are using contactless cards, but it doesn’t mean we’ve all stopped using cash.

"It’s great for the people of Kinloss and, as the economy begins to reopen, we’re ready to support more communities across the UK."
