LOCAL groups are being invited to another community gathering this summer.

The Big Lunch returns to the town hall on Saturday, June 6, hosted by Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) and The Eden Communities Project, with support of the Moray Food Plus team.

FACT community development officer Vicky Flood said: "This is a great opportunity to get together with friends and neighbours and share food and stories. Towns and villages across the UK are planning how they will get together, whether it be a few neighbours round for a cup of tea or a whole village with a pot luck lunch."

Since The Big Lunch started in 2009, the annual get-together for neighbours has grown bigger and better as millions of people nationwide take to their streets, gardens and neighbourhoods for a few hours of community, friendship, and fun.

The Big Lunch connects people and encourages friendlier, safer neighbourhoods where they start to share more - from conversations and ideas, to skills and resources, and, for some, it ignites a passion for doing more good things where they live.

FACT volunteers are planning how the local event will take shape and asking for groups to be part of the event by running a stall on the day or just planning a get-together.

Lindsay Welsh from Moray Food Plus added: "We will be providing a selection of soups and puddings using quality surplus food received through the food recovery scheme, as well as having a stall ourselves."

There is no charge for a community stall, however, groups are asked to contribute to a raffle that will be held on the day.

The Eden ‘Communities’ project is funded by the National Lottery and provides free packs for people planning a Big Lunch and its filled with great ideas of how to plan your event as well as ready-made posters, stickers and top tips.

To get hold of a pack or a form to book a stall at Forres Town Hall, contact FACT on 01309 674388 or email info@forresarea.org.
