Moray Council invites community to choose from Lochyhill and Roysvale sites for new Forres Academy

FORRES residents are being encouraged to take part in an ongoing public engagement exercise around the future site of the area’s new secondary school.
The Forres Academy engagement - launched on March 27 - aims to gather views on the two viable remaining site options; Lochyhill adjacent to Forbeshill; and Applegrove Playing Fields/Roysvale.
Moray Council leader, Councillor Kathleen Robertson, said: “All Moray’s young people should have access to high-quality, up-to-date learning facilities that we can all be proud of.
"This site engagement is the next step to being able to deliver this in Forres and I would encourage everyone to share their views.”
The public can share their views on their preferred choice via an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M3YG2BJ up until April 25.
Physical copies of the survey are available from Forres Library and Forres Post Office.
A community drop-in session will be held at Forres Town Hall on April 18 from 10am-7pm, offering a chance for anyone who wishes to learn more about the sites to speak with the team.
Moray Council’s elected members for Forres are encouraging locals to get involved with the engagement.
Councillor Scott Lawrence said: “Ensuring our young people have the best educational opportunities and facilities is incredibly important.
"Input from the local community is vital to achieve this and I encourage everyone to speak with the Learning Estate team to discuss these future options.”
Cllr Paul McBain, added: “The condition of the school has been a concern for some time.
"I would encourage anyone who has not yet shared their views to come along to the drop in event to learn more and contribute to the engagement.”
Cllr Draeyk Van Der Horn finished: “In order to ensure we can provide a new build that the community is happy with, we need to hear from them.
"That’s why it’s important for as many people as possible to take part in the survey and contribute their opinions.”
