SANTA Claus switched on the town’s Christmas lights on Saturday afternoon to the delight of around 500 attendees.

Forres and District Pipe Band, Elgin City Band and Wave Radio provided festive favourites at the Tolbooth from 2-5pm then Film Forres volunteers welcomed families inside for screenings of ‘The Snowman’ and ‘The Snow Dog’.

Forres Christmas Lights Committee volunteer Alan Hunter said everyone was in good spirits.

He added: “It was a very successful switch-on. The weather was chilly but dry and there were lots of spectators.

“Forres Pipe Band and Santa led a procession from the town hall to the tree where Elgin City Band played a great selection of tunes. Santa switched the lights on at 5pm but they went out at 5.01pm! They were fully repaired on Sunday after repeatedly switching on and off. Children also visited Santa’s Grotto in the Tolbooth for chat and sweeties!”
